What will happen with the underlying SharePoint site if you delete or archive a Team. The concern there is what impact this would have on search and other core capabilities. There are multiple reasons why organizations need to be able to move channels. I don't want to delete it or rename it to something that will drop it to the bottom of the list (if sorted alphabetically). However, you can still add or remove members and update roles and you can still view all the team activity in standard and private channels, files, and chats. RE: Archive Channels or Conversations in a team. Currently the only option appears to be to delete the old channel, which would have the unwanted side-effect of deleting their contents. We really appreciate you! Please provide this option - it's been on the backlog for years! An alternative which would suffice for us would be to be able to export a channel's contents (discussions etc) to an archival file format. +1, that is defintely necessary in a fast-paced environment. First, I want to remind you that we have had legal archiving in the product for a long time. However, there is not yet a standalone solution in place for archiving teams, channels, and conversations per this definition. In other words, your Teams content falls under the service-level agreement of all other Office 365 artifacts. Up until now that has not been possible while working within Teams channels. If you delete a team, it will disappear from your Teams client. When you archive, if you tick the box the SharePoint becomes read-only. This way, related discussion is kept in one place, team members who are not interested/have nothing to contribute avoid seeing extra noise in the channels they usually use, but the discussion is transparent/visible to the whole team. The General channel is more limited than other channels that have been created by users. As companies change and projects are finished or sidelined, users face a cluttered Teams structure with excess inactive channels affecting productivity. Companies adopting agile practices, working with short iterations expect to create dozens of channels per month in a Team. It’s not feasible to archive a channel with Microsoft teams. With organizational change, the need may arise to limit access to specific channels or to move channels to different Teams. Community to share and get the latest about Microsoft Learn. Nothing is static including the organizations themselves. Today we have to do this manually by renaming the active channel to "Closed - Channel Name" and then hide it. + 1 Adam. Being able to archive them would get another structuring layer. When you archive a team, the team (and files if you tick the option) become read-only. This would enable us to keep a record of the contents in a read-only format, and then it would be reasonable for us to go ahead and delete the channel.
